The Michigan Nanotechnology Institute for Medicine and Biological Sciences: http://www.nano.med.umich.edu/  has a Research Laboratory Specialist Lead position available for a motivated team player.

 

DUTIES:

Design, develop and execute studies of nanoemulsion based adjuvant vaccines in a team environment. Development of research protocols, data analysis and management of data files. Perform critical analysis of literature relevant to the studies and prepare research papers for publication and presentation at conferences. Collaborate on writing of reports to sponsors, of proposals to funding agencies, FDA and Review Boards. Supervision and coordination of Staff will include supervising of virology laboratory personnel, postdocs, and students.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires the academic knowledge of a health science field or discipline such as public health, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pathology, nursing, dentistry, or medical technology, plus advanced study and accumulated knowledge of application that is generally associated with a Doctoral degree in a field of learning, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience

 

DEPARTMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Microbiology, and/or Toxicology.  Extensive experience (5-8 years) with the investigation of viruses, antigenic structure, differentiation and attenuation of viruses, and vaccine development and toxicology.  Experience with small animal (mice) in vivo models and stability studies. Experience with vaccine development highly desirable.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

The Michigan Nanotechnology Institute for Medicine and Biological Sciences: http://www.nano.med.umich.edu/  is seeking for its vaccine development team an experienced and highly motivated candidate with in-depth knowledge and extensive skills in vaccine development. Candidate will be expected to conduct research focused on stability testing and will perform experiments, collect and tabulate data, publish and present results. Candidate will participate in the training of graduate students and research staff in a research laboratory setting.

 

Job Requirements:

Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, and/or toxicology with 3-5 years research laboratory experience.  Evidence of scholarly ability (record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, etc.).  Extensive experience with the investigation of viruses, antigenic structure, differentiation and attenuation of viruses, and toxicology. Experience with development of biologic products for use in humans. Experience with vaccine development and stability studies as well as knowledge of the FDA IND approval process are highly desirable. Experience with the setting-up and validation of assays (including specificity, accuracy and sensitivity of the assays) for GMP products.  Specific experience with validating ELISAs, Western blots, quantitative silver stains, and HPLC.

Candidates should be able to carry out research tasks independently and collaborate effectively with other research staff in the laboratory. Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
